telephone madness

I am a gsm engineer working in lagos.Business had been good until one eventful day.A client came in and said that he wanted to fix his phone,i took the phone to make a quick assessment while i took a history of the fault from him."No come up" he said. i literally assumed it had shot down.I handed the job card to him to fill but that was a waste of time. This client couldn't,t tell me his fault why do i expect him to fill a form. "no problem" i said ,come back in the evening, i charged him two thousand naira. Shocking all he said was"try for me". i started working on the phone and realised that the battery had been drained. i changed the cells of the battery but the phone only blinked,i decided to reprogramme the software on the phone.Voila!the phone came up.i did a quality assessment on the phone and it passed for collection by customer. At exactly 5.00p.m tajudeen entered,"how my phone?fine,i replied. It is ready. He took the handset from me and inserted his sim card. "ah ah ah!,what of all my phone numbers. They are gone i said calmly."na lie oh!na lie oh!why you throw away me numbers?i new for lagos, i no get where to go.i need the numbers.this is a case of chasing rats when your house is burning,i thought".i go call police oh".now i got angry, leave my shop if you no get money".AH ah ah!he said and walked out.fifteen minutes later, two policemen came in ,"you are under arrest for theft of phone information". i went to the station and of course you all know what happened, i paid five thousand to bail myself after two nights in the cell. The laws in my shop now are stricter.

i'm so sorry to hear this. its a classic example of how sad our country is, that the law enforcement agents would take advantage of people so boldly. its so unfair. two years ago they tried to arrest me for being naked in public, because i was driving along lekki expressway without wearing a shirt. i think they failed mainly because i am a lawyer, and i wouldn't take that lying down. they might well have arrested someone else for something less.

i would say that this is a lesson learned, that the next time you make the customer sign a release informing them that their information is likely to be lost, as obtains here in the uk. however, i realise the realities of working in nigeria; that release would not necessarily protect you from those thieves in uniform.

i hope you are well, may God continue to protect us.

What kind of nonsensical rubbish is that, so you did not collect payment from Taju, in short 7k lost. I tire for Nigeria o, if they say come and arrest proper burglar or robbery in progress you will not see any police o.

It looks like the police was in on the 419 plot right from the start.

LOL!! I too am a recent victim of this ur theft of phone information.

It was so frustrating and depressing. First of all the scrren on my mobile went blank and I couldnt see anything on it. I tried to sync the phone with my PC before sending it for repairs to prevent 'theft of phone information' but didnt succeed as I couldnt seeanything on the screen to follow the instructions or even copy numbers to sim.

With resignation, I sent the handset off for repairs hoping against hope that the numbers and texts would be returned to me intact after repairs but alas - it wasnt to be. I am now bereft of my 'phone information'. LOL!!
